Synopsis

In 1956, with the first revolutionary movements of July 26th commanded by Fidel Castro, a lot of young people were witnesses of how their families helped and gave logistical support to the rebels who fought for an ideal: to free Cuba from the terrible outcome that the Batista government was leading them to.

On January 1st, 1959, power was still on the revolutionary hands led by Fidel Castro. “La Perla del Caribe” (the Caribbean Pearl) was turning into a prison to all those young people who weren’t in favor of the new communist regime.

“El Caballo” (the Horse), Fidel Castro’s nickname – gave hope to a people that knew that, behind the surrender of the President Batista, Cuba’s destiny was becoming a really different thing that was promised in the beginning of the revolutionary movement.

The Revolution divided the people, stopped the progress and annihilated the opportunities to all those young dissidents who thought differently, and that under the nickname of “gusanos disidentes” (dissident worms), they were dragged to four alternatives: to submit; to accept the mistake and obey; to rebel, be arrested and possibly executed; or risk their lives and try to run away from Cuba.

To escape Cuba became the main goal of many young people who wanted to find their freedom again.
